Klagenfurt Attractions Guide

Popular attractions in Klagenfurt Neuer Platz Neuer Platz, the city’s main square, is where it all happens. In the middle of the main square is a fountain with an elaborately sculpted lindwurm as an adornment. It closely resembles a dragon and its importance is related to the legend of how Klagenfurt came to be. The city hall or landhaus can be found in Neuer Platz. It features a collection of ancient coat of arms. Not too far away, there would be a number of notable mansions and mini castles that date from the 16th century. Most of the structures that can be found in the main square would have baroque facades. Some would also have arcaded courtyards in Renaissance style. Amidst these historic buildings, there are cafes, restaurants, shopping destinations and bars. The lively and romantic square can be explored by foot but visitors can also take advantage of bicycles that can be rented in the area. The Minimundus The Minimundus is a miniature park at Klagenfurt that displays over 150 miniature models of different architectural masterpieces from around the globe. The miniatures are built at a ratio of 1:25. The miniature park opened its doors in 1958 and since then over 15 million visitors browsed through the 26000 square meters of its entirety. Some of the miniatures include The Taj Majal, The White House, The Tower of London, The Syndey Opera House, The Statue of Liberty, Suleiman Mosque, Eiffel Tower, The Hochosterwitz castle, a number of trains in Europe and a broken model of the Space Shuttle. It can be appreciated by both old and young alike. It would be best to visit the park in the afternoon when it is made more charming because of the light. It is also recommended to wait until the miniatures are lit up at night. Strandbad Klagenfurt The wide stretch of Strandbad Klagenfurt beach located on the Wörthersee is big enough to accommodate 12000 guests. On top of the sandy shores, there is also a vast grassy area that a lot of sunbathers can take advantage of. This simply means that tourists do not have to worry about the crowd. It has two restaurants, a football pitch and a volleyball court for the convenience and enjoyment of the tourists. Worthersee Lake Worthersee Lake is probably the warmest lake in the region. Because the surrounding mountains cradle the vast lake, the water is also quite calm. In the summer, the water temperature can get as low as 26 degrees Celsius. This explains why it is most ideal for different water activities. Swimming is what tourists most enjoy but there are other activities that people can engage in. Sports that can be enjoyed include volleyball, golf, tennis and windsurfing. There are also trekking and hiking paths for the adventurous at heart. For visitors who simply wish to unwind, there are also spa destinations. In Schloss Velden, Auriga Spa has the most luxurious facilities that the scenic lake has to offer. It has a lot of private lakeside treatment rooms where people can be pampered depending on the wellness program they chose.
